Upload 1099 data file to California

Registration is required: You will need to have username and account with California Secure Web Internet File Transfer (SWIFT)

• To set up a SWIFT account


• Click here https://www.ftb.ca.gov/file/business/information-returns.html
• On the Reporting information returns page scroll down to How to File / Electronic filing for the most current information on how to set up a SWIFT account



• Enter and verify all 1099 data



• Enter the Submitter Information


• Click E-file Direct > Submitter Information
• Submitter information is person uploading the file
• Contact information is the Firm information preparing the 1099s



• Create the data file to upload


• Click E-file Direct > Create 1099/1098 Files > Create State 1099/1098 File and select California
• Select a submitter
• Select the 1099 and forms to include
• Upload file information is the name and location of the file being created. You will need this information during the upload process.
• Click the [Create File] button to create the upload file.



• Upload the data file


• Log in to your California SWIFT account to upload the file created with the W2/1099 Filer
