Upload 1099 data file to Maine
Registration is required Prior to uploading W-2 or 1099 files you will need to create an account on the on the Maine Employers Electronic Tax Reporting System (MEETRS) website.
- To register as a transmitter
- Click here to access the Maine (MEETRS) website https://portal.maine.gov/meetrs
- Enter a Login ID, a Password and select “Upload 1099 / W-2G File” from the dropdown and press [Submit]
- Confirm the Password and enter additional transmitter information and click [Submit]
- Enter and verify all 1099 data
- Enter the Submitter Information
- Click E-file Direct > Submitter Information
- Submitter information is person uploading the file
- Contact information is the Firm information preparing the W-2s
- Create the data file to upload
- Click E-file Direct > Create 1099/1098 Files > Create State 1099/1098 File and select Maine
- Select a submitter
- Select the 1099 and forms to include
- Upload file information is the name and location of the file being created. You will need this information during the upload process.
- Click the [Create File] button to create the upload file.
- Log on to the Maine (MEETRS) website
- Click here to access the Maine (MEETRS) website https://portal.maine.gov/meetrs
- Enter login information and select “Upload 1099 / W-2G File” from the dropdown and press [Submit]
- Click [Submit] button
- Upload the data file
- Enter the Total Number of A Records as “1”
- Enter Total of Maine Withholding
- Select Validate and Write File
- Use the [Browse…] button to browse and locate the file created with the W2/1099 Filer
- Click [Submit] button on the bottom of the page
